Sand Beach is filled with sharp shells and its water rarely warms above 55 degrees Fahrenheit, but still, this is the more popular of the park's two beaches. Why you ask? Because as one reviewer tells IgoUgo.com: "The sight is awesome -- the forest seems to come right to the end of the sandy beach. And on both sides of the sand, rocky hills seem to enclose this small haven."
Similar to Jordan Pond, Sand Beach is also a great picnic rest stop (or a quick and cool swim) before you start either the Beehive or Great Head trails. You'll find this beach off Park Loop Road, just south of the east entrance pay station. Sand Beach is open from mid April to December.
