Best Times to Visit Cannes
The best time to visit Cannes is in the fall, after May's International Film Festival and summer's vacation crowds dwindle. Temperatures won't really start dipping until November; speaking of which, winter is the best time to visit Cannes without emptying your bank account. Spring is another nice shoulder season, but you'll see hotel prices slowly rise until they reach an ultimate high during the summer high season.
In September, average temperatures are in the 60s and 70s -- even November sees highs in the 60s. And many of the tourists that descend on the area in the summer have returned home to work or school. You can still soak in some rays on the beach during the day, but bring layers for chilly evenings.
This is low season in Cannes. Temperatures in the 40s and 50s mean you'll probably not be frolicking in the Mediterranean, but you can save some euro this time of year.
Spring sees average high temperatures that range from the upper 50s to the upper 60s. Don't even think about visiting in May unless you want to wrestle with tens of thousands here for the International Film Festival. If you do come to Cannes in early to mid May, you should look to book your hotel as far in advance as possible (even a year).
Summer sees sweltering temperatures and crowds: Luckily, a pretty consistent breeze blows across the Mediterranean, which tends to diffuse frustration with both the high temps and heavy crowds. This is high season, so be prepared to drop quite a few euro for a hotel.
