|About these ratings|
If you want to learn more about Cozumel's history, check out this excellent museum in downtown San Miguel. The Museo de la Isla de Cozumel, a former luxury hotel, features exhibits on the island's ecosystems and displays on local development and conservation issues. You can also see old Mayan and Spanish colonial artifacts on the second floor. The museum even showcases the history of Cozumel's modern development, with exhibits on the area's 20th-century cultural and economic development.
Travelers particularly enjoy the museum for the chance to learn the island's history while still leaving time for the beach and watersports. One TripAdvisor traveler said: "We got through pretty quickly, although you could probably spend about 1-1.5 hours or so if you took your time." Another TripAdvisor traveler noted that the "museum is not terribly big which was fine with us as we wanted to do other things, too."
Travelers also highly recommend the restaurant on the museum's second floor. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and admission is around $3 USD per person.
