Located just off the Royal Mile, The Real Mary King's Close gives visitors an idea of what life was like in the 16th and 17th centuries. Guided tours -- led by four characters, the merchant, cleaner, daughter and servant -- take visitors underground to a city bursting with historical drama.
Because this is such a popular attraction, booking ahead of time on the attraction's website is highly recommended. Visitors say this attraction's moderate admission fee is worth every pound, and one TripAdvisor user writes that he and his girl friend "enjoyed the tour and only wish there was more of it left to view. Our tour guide was excellent and the girls at the reception/ticket booth were very friendly!" Keep in mind, children ages five and under will not be admitted for safety-code reasons.
