Fort Myers Neighborhoods & Towns
River District
Along the riverbank of the Caloosahatchee is Fort Myer's downtown River District. Visit the Imaginarium Hands-On Museum, which is located here. This downtown area sits next to the Edison Park Historic District, where you can find the twin residences of Thomas Edison and the more modest home of Henry Ford, which is nicknamed Mangoes. Look for the rows of palm trees, which line McGregor Boulevard. The road runs along the eastern shore of the river and give the city the nickname the "City of Palms."
Right off I-75 and a bit southeast of the River District is the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium, a favorite of families with young kids.
Fort Myers Beach
Fort Myers Beach sits on the southwestern coast of the city and is accessible by San Carlos Boulevard. Cape Coral, Lover's Key, Bonita Beach as well as the island of Sanibel and Captiva, are other popular beaches and are located a quick drive away. For freshwater fishing, try your luck in the Caloosahatchee River.
