As a landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, Graycliff offers a unique experience, distinguished from its Nassau counterparts. This 18th-century colonial mansion comprises only 20 antique-filled rooms, each differentiated by historic names instead of room numbers. Despite its Old World decor, rooms do come with 21st-century amenities, like air conditioning, a private bath (some rooms even have Jacuzzis) and cable TV. To get a taste of Graycliff's far-reaching heritage, opt to bed down in the Pool Cottage, where Winston Churchill once slept. Though the rooms may not appeal to all visitors, recent guests say it's best for history lovers who appreciate the hotel's ancestral commitment. Graycliff also boasts two on-site pools and a five-star restaurant of the same name. What's even more unique is that the hotel offers cigar rolling lessons and tastings at its own cigar company, certified organic Graycliff Coffee and Graycliff Chocolate. more

Sitting on the eastern side of Grand Bahama Island, Pelican Bay Hotel sits just steps from Pelican Bay Beach and within walking distance of Port Lucaya Marina and Marketplace. Because of Pelican Bay's primo location, recent guests say it's easy to venture off the resort for a taste of island flavor. If you'd rather stick closer to the shoreline, Pelican Bay provides a range of aquatic sports, like fishing, kayaking and scuba diving. Prefer freshwater over saltwater? Pelican Bay also hosts three swimming pools, which recent guests say are among their favorite amenities. Travelers who need a break from the water can escape to the fairways at the 18-hole Lucayan Golf Course and Country Club, located less than two milesnorth of the resort. And if you're not full from the marketplace tour de cuisine, swing by the resort's harborside restaurant and bar, Sabor, for a tropical libation and fresh seafood. When it's time to bed down, retreat to your waterside lodgings, which recent guests say are spacious and clean, but a bit dated.  more

The Sandals Royal Bahamian has a longstanding regal heritage. Before it was part of the Sandals family, this retreat was known as the Balmoral Club – a famed 1940s escape for the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Upholding the Balmoral's legacy, Sandals Royal Bahamian's main entrance and lobby display frescoed ceilings and opulent chandeliers, while rooms include Old-World colonial accents. Sandals Royal Bahamian also features a Red Lane Spa, seven pools and complimentary gear for kayaking, sailing and scuba diving (lessons are included in the resort fees). And if you crave a change in scenery, hop on a free boat and within minutes you'll be on Sandals' private offshore island with access to two secluded beaches, a lagoon-style pool and a seafood eatery. Though recent guests say the private beach is a fun getaway, they also lament the company of pesky mosquitoes. If the fresh sea fare on the offshore island doesn't satiate your appetite, head back to the mainland and decide between 10 on-site restaurants. more

The Reef Atlantis caters to the Paradise Beach vacationer looking for a touch of luxury. Guests can choose between spacious, well-appointed studios, suites and penthouses, which all feature private balconies that open to views of the Nassau Harbour, the ocean or the terrace. Every suite includes a kitchenette and a large master bath. In addition to the deluxe accommodations, guests also have access to Atlantis Resort activities like the 18-hole golf course, the Caribbean's largest casino, the 141-acre water park and the Dolphin Cay marine habitat. And when you need to soothe your appetite, Atlantis touts 21 restaurants and 19 bars offering everything from Southwestern cuisine with a Bahamian flair to casual pool side eats. Despite the staggering amount of choices, guests say the overall Atlantis experience — especially dining — can be overpriced. If you choose not to book the all-inclusive package, guests recommend stopping at a grocery store on your way to the resort, or heading to neighboring Potter's Cay for authentic (and budget-friendly) Bahamian fare. more

Though each Atlantis Resort branch shares access to a water park, a casino and a golf course, Atlantis Coral Towers, Autograph Collection touts perhaps the most important amenity: An ideal location. Centrally situated amidst the Atlantis lagoons on Paradise Island, Coral Towers is steps from Blu (the resort complex's newest pool), the shops at Crystal Court and the Marina Village. Because of all the activities, entertainment options and 21 restaurants, recent guests liken Coral Towers to an immobile cruise ship, without the endless supply of prepaid dining. Guests did note that cruisers with day passes to the resort caused it to be crowded. Although the property has recently become a member of the Autograph Collection, and members can earn Marriott Rewards, recent guests say rooms could use an update.  more

Compared to the luxe Reef Atlantis, and the adults-only Cove Atlantis, Royal Towers is the most kid-friendly branch of the Atlantis properties, starting with one of the largest open-air marine habitats in the world (which resides in the lobby). Recent guests also praise the Royal Tower's rooms, which feature flat-screen HDTVs, 24-hour room service and French balconies that open to harbor or water views. But the best part about staying at Atlantis Royal Towers is having access to Atlantis amenities, like the 141-acre water park, the Caribbean's largest casino, the Mandara Spa and the 18-hole golf course. Though there are 21 restaurants and 13 bars and lounges on-site, previous visitors recommend going into Nassau (about 4 miles south of the resort) for meals, to avoid shelling out a pretty penny for pricey meals at the resort. more
