Montreal Hotel Guide

Most of Montreal's high-class luxury hotels are located downtown, which makes them ideal for sight-seers. Many of these hotels include facilities, such as swimming pools, bars and restaurants and are located near the shopping malls and museums on the Golden Square Mile.

Vieux-Montréal offers a dozen or so boutique hotels with stone walls and period-style furnishings. Although these hotels may sound tempting to travelers who are interested in experiencing historic Montreal, keep in mind that prices tend to run high due to their quality features and prime location.

Hotels in Plateau Mont-Royal tend to offer more reasonable rates and are located near the bars, dance clubs and shopping area of rue St-Denis. These neighborhoods are also seeing a growth in upscale bed and breakfasts like the traveler-recommended Atmosphere. Be advised, however, that this area can be a bit noisy at night, especially if you have a room facing the street.

  • While most of the better hotels are located downtown, Old Montreal boasts some of the city's finest restaurants and historical sites and has a real sense of old world decor and charm. Many European style hotels are available in this area." -- Travel Channel
  • Moderately priced hotel rooms are concentrated around the livelier St-Denis area, with even cheaper options in the rundown area along rue St-Hubert east of the bus terminal. A better option is one of the growing number of B&Bs, which offer budget accommodation in interesting neighbourhoods like the Plateau." -- Rough Guides
  • You'll find the highest hotel rates during the region's busiest times, from May to October, reaching a peak in July and August. High rates also pop up during the frequent summer festivals, annual holidays … Grand Prix days in Montréal in June, and winter carnivals in January and February … reserve well in advance, especially if you're looking for special rates or packages." -- Frommer's
  • Book as early as April or May for lodging during the summer high season. When planning a visit during the Grand Prix weekend, make reservations even farther in advance. Last-minute discounts are available January through March." -- Smarter Travel
