The Prince George Hotel

Halifax, NS

  • 4.0-star Hotel Class
  • Moderate Critic Rating
  • TripAdvisor Traveler Rating

Recent visitors praised The Prince George Hotel for its primo downtown Halifax location. Travelers staying here can easily walk to the Citadel, as well as to plenty of shopping venues and restaurants in the area. But while Halifax features a wealth of top-rated dining venues, recent visitors suggested staying on site for at least one meal. Gio Restaurant consistently impresses patrons with its gourmet Italian gourmet fare, and the Sunday brunch served on the Terrace. On the other hand, The Prince George's accommodations receive mixed reviews: Most guests appreciated the minifridges, free Wi-Fi and Keurig coffeemakers, but others describe the rooms' mahogany furnishings as outdated. However, guests traveling with pets will appreciate the $25-per-stay fee for furry friends of all sizes; that fee covers a fleece pet blanket, waste bags and food and water bowls. more

Previous visitors don't mind the Fox Harb'r Golf Resort & Spa's remote Wallace, Nova Scotia, location. In fact, many guests said the resort's scenic location and quiet ambiance are some of its greatest allures. Golfers can tee off on the Graham Cooke-designed championship course, while nature-seekers hike along scenic trails in the Wallace Bay National Wildlife Area Trail (about 8 miles southeast of the resort) or discover Nova Scotia by sea on a boating tour. Meanwhile, those looking for an extra dose of relaxation can indulge in a replenishing massage or lounge by the resort's mineral pool and hot tub. Afterward, retreat to your well-appointed accommodations, which are outfitted with kitchennettes, heated granite bathroom floors, Molton Brown bath products and terraces or balconies. However, some visitors were not satisfied with the cuisine served at The Great Room, describing it as unimaginative and overpriced.  more

This Marriott outpost boasts a prime location on Halifax Harbour, within close proximity to the waterfront's bars, restaurants and shopping venues. Guests also praise this Marriott's proximity to the Casino Nova Scotia, which is connected to the hotel via an indoor skyway. Inside the hotel, the refurbished lobby wins guests over with its sleek, modern decor. The 352 guest rooms and suites, on the other hand, seem to still need an update — travelers describe the rooms' brown and red color schemes as drab compared to the bright white furnishings of the lobby. Each room features a minifridge, a 25-inch flat-screen TV and Internet access (for a fee). As for dining, you can order room service from the on-site restaurant, the harbourstone sea grill & pour house or venture to the nearby eateries located on the waterfront. Feel free to stick close to the hotel for your daily caffeine fix, though; there's a Starbucks in the lobby. Thanks to the property's Marriott ties, Marriott Rewards members can earn free nights and other perks for choosing to bed down here. more

With its waterfront location, The Westin Nova Scotian is perfectly located for travelers looking to explore Halifax's maritime sites, including the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. But what visitors love the most about this Westin is its dedication to quality customer service. Many previous guests praised the friendly demeanor of the Westin's staff. After enjoying some sightseeing, retreat to your comfortable accommodations, furnished with a signature Heavenly Bed, 32-inch LCD TV and complimentary Internet access. Though some guests did describe the bathrooms as slightly cramped, most praised the rooms for being clean and spacious. Past visitors also recommended sampling the food at the Westin's two restaurants, Roy's Lounge and elements on hollis, which serves up classic dishes with a twist (think: salmon over a cucumber and watercress with kale chips). Because Westin falls under the Starwood Hotels umbrella, Starwood Preferred Guests can earn points for choosing to bed down here. more

#6 in Best Northeast Provinces Hotels

The Keltic Lodge earns consistent praise from previous guests for its friendly staff and inspiring scenery. Flanking Ingonish Beach on Cape Breton Island, off the northeast coast of Nova Scotia, the property affords unobstructed views of Cape Smokey Mountain. Saltwater fishing, whale-watching and guided hikes can all be arranged with the inn's concierge. Back at the hotel, you can perfect your swing on the Cape Breton Highlands Links or enjoy a treatment at the spa before unwinding in your digs. All inn accommodations come outfitted with flat-screen TVs, coffee makers and spacious bathrooms with soaking tubs. Some guests say they felt the decor was a little dated, but those who sprung for one of the two- or four-bedroom cottages were impressed with the views. As far as dining goes, previous patrons recommend checking out the Purple Thistle Dining Room, which serves up seafood dishes like poached lobster and maritime stew. For lighter fare, visit the Highland Sitting Room or enjoy a buffet-style dinner at the Atlantic Restaurant. more
