Jade Mountain
View all photos
Rising above its sister property, Anse Chastanet, Jade Mountain offers high-rise vistas of the Piton Mountains, with architecture that draws on St. Lucia's natural beauty. Each of its "sanctuaries" boasts only three walls (the space where the fourth wall should be is completely open), 15-foot ceilings and furnishings crafted from tropical wood. Some suites also feature infinity pools that create the illusion of a limitless space between you, the Caribbean Sea and the Pitons. However, recent guests warn that though the open wall yields majestic views, it also means you're up close and personal with some of the island's high-flying wildlife and the occasional rainstorm. In addition to the panoramic views, Jade Mountain also touts a varied list of island sports, including snorkeling in the Anse Chastanet Bay, sunset sailing on the resort yacht and access to all of Anse Chastanet's activities and facilities. As the site of the finale of the 14th season of "The Bachelor," Jade Mountain knows how to create a romantic atmosphere. Couples can arrange for an in-room massage with the Kai en Ciel Spa or private dining on the Celestial Terrace.

Capella Marigot Bay

The Capella Marigot Bay provides luxury-seekers the ultimate in island privacy. Because of its secluded location, some recent guests describe the Capella's distant position as too isolated. But what the resort may lack in nearby attractions, it makes up for with luxurious amenities. Rooms are set on 30 acres of leafy tropical gardens and include spacious bay-view balconies. Some select suites even tout private plunge pools. The Capella also features two large freshwater pools — one with an infinity edge overlooking the bay, and one designed in a lagoon-style with a swim-up bar. Recent guests appreciate this dual pool variety for the days when the trek to the beach seems too daunting. Contributing to its relaxed atmosphere, the Auriga Spa features a wide selection of facial and massage treatments. When it's time to dine, guests have their choice of three on-site restaurants and a swim-up bar that serves sushi and sandwiches.

Ladera
View all photos
Prompting guests to appreciate their magnificent surroundings, the 32 suites at Ladera all boast an "open wall" — like a patio, minus the door — facing the dramatic Pitons and the Caribbean Sea. (Though this absent fourth wall takes luxury to the next level, don't be surprised if you wind up sharing your room with a harmless lizard or two.) Rooms also include your choice of a private plunge pool or waterfall pool. Because Ladera sits on a ridge at 1,100 feet, the resort isn't located directly on a beach. However, Ladera does provide complimentary shuttle service to Sugar Beach on the western side of the island. Ladera also offers an abundance of activities, ranging from a Gros Piton hike to a sailing day trip to Marigot Bay. To experience the mountains in a more restful setting, arrange for an outdoor massage at The Spa. Previous visitors say you should also treat yourself to the field-to-fork eats at the on-site restaurant, Dasheene, but caution that the food is expensive.

Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort

At Sugar Beach, you don't have to book a lavish villa to experience high-end amenities. Each room features a private walled garden, a plunge pool and personalized butler service. In addition to the plush accommodations, Sugar Beach also boasts easy access to some of St. Lucia's best diving spots, including "Superman's Flight," a popular drift dive around the base of Petit Piton. Travelers can arrange for scuba excursions, in addition to island tours through the resort. If you want to experience Petit Piton, but in a more laid-back atmosphere, consider indulging in a treatment at the Rainforest Spa, located at the base of the mountain. Refuel for more island exploration and relaxation at the three on-site restaurants, including the casual beachfront Bayside Restaurant or the elegant Great Room (the Terrace is only open for breakfast). Recent guests gave mixed reviews of the service, with some saying it was subpar for the price paid.

To get a taste of residential Caribbean living in Rodney Bay, consider a stay at The Landings St. Lucia. Recent guests say the fully equipped villa suites feel more like apartments than hotel rooms. Each one-, two- or three-bedroom accommodation boast full kitchens, spacious living rooms and, in some suites, private hot tub overlooking the sea. If you're not privy to your own hot tub, retreat to the 800-foot-long beachfront or sign up for some of the resort's water sports, like snorkeling, scuba diving or a sunset sail. Pamper yourself with a treatment at the 7,000-square-foot Soleil Spa or indulge in a meal at one of the hotel's three guest-approved restaurants. Visitors say the sophisticated menu and upscale atmosphere at The Palms are ideal for a special occasion dinner while the Beach Club is more casual but equally delicious.

With sweeping views of Fort Rodney and volcanic mountains rising from turquoise waters, the Grande St. Lucian is flanked on both sides by the Caribbean Sea and Rodney Bay. Because of its unique position on the island, transport from the airport to the resort can be a bit bumpy. Despite its hard-to-reach location, the Grande St. Lucian is more of a theme park village than a secluded island retreat, offering a nearly endless supply of restaurants, recreation and amenities. And with the free inter-Sandals shuttle service, there are an additional 12 restaurants and numerous beach activities available if you tire of the Grande St. Lucian's five pools, scuba diving lessons and tennis facilities. Rooms feature Roman tubs, high-end linens and balconies or patios. With Sandals Grande Lucian's bevy of activities, restaurants and prime location just south of Pigeon Island National Park, guests say the resort provides a packed itinerary and just the right amount of relaxation.

Anse Chastanet stands as St. Lucia's only property with views of both the Petit and Gros Piton mountains. Spread across 600 tropical acres and flanked by two white sand beaches, Anse Chastanet's 49 open-air rooms are either perched on the verdant hillside or nestled beach level within a tropical garden. Recent guests note that although the naturalistic setting is relaxing, you'll want to pack plenty of bug spray. Outside of the guest rooms, Anse Chastanet offers a host of activities, from yoga to jungle biking. Scuba divers will be especially pleased to note that the area surrounding Anse Chastanet is a marine reserve. Meanwhile, those more interested in relaxing by the water than plunging beneath it can book a refreshing treatment at the Kai Belté Spa. To round out this nature-inspired retreat, guests have their pick of six dining options (including two treehouse restaurants). You'll find Anse Chastanet on St. Lucia's southwestern coast.

Sitting above Smugglers Cove Beach in St. Lucia's Cap Estate, Cap Maison provides a boutique hideaway from some of the island's outsized resorts. Cap Maison boasts 49 Spanish-Caribbean-style rooms and suites, each featuring a verandah and outdoor lounging, paintings by St. Lucian artists and an iPod docking station. If you approach luxury travel with a go-big-or-go-home mentality, consider booking an Oceanview Villa Suite. Measuring between 2,800 and 3,000 square feet, these suites feature full kitchens, living rooms and master bedrooms, while select suites also include rooftop terraces with private pools. In addition to the beach access, guests also rave about the cuisine at the two on-site restaurants, especially The Cliff at Cap Restaurant's intimate cliff-side setting and French-West Indian cuisine. Occupying 12 acres along La Brelotte Bay, East Winds Inn provides a relaxed, spacious oasis for vacationers looking for a luxurious, yet low-key retreat. Each room features a private, shaded terrace or patio, Italian fine linens from Rivolta Carmignani and a minifridge stocked daily with soft drinks and beer. And because East Winds Inn comprises only 30 rooms, recent guests say the staff can provide individualized treatment to all its lodgers. With easy access to the sandy shore, visitors can dive, kayak or paddle boat. Travelers say the beach may be the best place to cool off and unwind, as the pool is too small for secluded relaxation. Guests also praise the on-site cuisine, saying the open-air atmosphere at the Flamboyant Restaurant and the soulful jazz tunes at the Bamboo Lounge only add to the delicious Caribbean fare and ambiance.

Allowing travelers to masquerade as temporary millionaires during their St. Lucia getaway, Sandals Regency La Toc offers a wealth of glamorous (and romantic) amenities. Arrange for "butler-class accommodations" and let a personal valet draw a rose-petal bath, deliver refreshing cocktails chaise-side and unpack your holiday wardrobe. If you still crave luxury, but don't require a personal aid, retreat to your guest room, which includes an oversized Roman tub and private balcony. When it's time to venture beyond your digs, test the fairways of the nine-hole golf course or sign up for a rejuvenating couples massage at the Red Lane Spa. This 210-acre resort also boasts snorkeling, kayaking and scuba diving, not to mention three pools. Should you need a change of scenery, head to Sandals Grande St. Lucian or Sandals Halcyon Beach for free access to their beaches, amenities and restaurants. To cap off your day, recent guests recommend making reservations at La Toc restaurant for elegant French fare. You'll also have your pick of eight other on-site eateries.

Calabash Cove Resort & Spa

Situated on Bonaire Bay's secluded hillside, flanked by coconut trees and bougainvillea, Calabash Cove Resort & Spa boasts luxurious waterfront digs. Recent guests attest that splurging on a water's edge cottage is worth the indulgence. These spacious, 1,000-square-foot cottages include private plunge pools, outdoor rain showers and hammocks. If your vacation budget isn't quite as flexible, the sunset ocean view junior suites feature private terraces that overlook the resort's own Mosaic Beach. One other component recent guests rave about: The food. Visitors say the dishes at Windsong Restaurant — like the St. Lucian crab backs and seared yellow fin tuna — are delicious. Adjacent to Windsong and the 40-foot infinity edge pool is Ti Spa. Though Calabash's relaxation therapies may be limited, its repertoire of activities isn't. Available excursions include a hike to the Pitons, a private sailing trip and island helicopter tours.

Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa All Inclusive

This 85-acre all-inclusive St. Lucia resort welcomes travelers of all ages with two distinct (and separate) wings: Harmony is the adults-only section and Splash appeals more to families and groups. The all-inclusive rate covers everything from accommodations and activities to meals, drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic), snacks, the kids club and airport transfers. (Previous guests were quite pleased that the hotel sits so close to the airport.) It seems the wealth of amenities is the biggest hit with recent visitors, who called out the excellent childcare, the delectable food at the five on-site restaurants and the friendly staff as highlights. Guests have access to the mile-long beach and multiple pools, plus activities like volleyball, kayaking, snorkeling, yoga and more. All accommodations include minifridges, flat-screen TVs and in-room safes, with views of the surrounding gardens, the water park or the ocean. However, this resort is not without disappointments. Many travelers mentioned that the Wi-Fi here is spotty at best and that the water was not the quintessential turquoise blue one might associate with the Caribbean (this is due to the resort's location on the Atlantic Ocean side). Several visitors also noted that the entertainment lineup could use some improvement, as could the room furnishings.

Sitting above the Anse Cochon cove between the villages of Anse La Raye and Canaries, the Ti Kaye Resort's 33 ocean view cottages provide a secluded, intimate atmosphere ideal for couples. Each cottage is accessible by a series of paths and stairs and includes a private outdoor garden shower, an iPod dock and a large balcony with a twin hammock. Though these cottages provide seclusion, they're also a significant trek from the beach and the shorefront Ti Manje restaurant — 166 steps to be exact — which some recent guests warn could prove a difficult task for less active visitors. Head to Kai Manje for more formal dining, and when it's time to relax, Kai Koko Spa boasts a dramatic cliff's edge location. However, with just three treatment rooms, guests warn the availability is limited.

Apart from its prime position on Reduit Beach, Bay Gardens Beach Resort & Spa also stands as one of the few St. Lucia lodgings that welcomes kids — meaning you won't find overt "couples-only" amenities here (besides the couples massage at La Mer Spa). The whole family can take part in the adrenaline rush of playing in the Splash Island Water Park or scuba diving and relax together at the lagoon-style pool. Aside from its beach setting, Bay Gardens also boasts easy access to Rodney Bay Village's eateries and bustling activity — the village practically sits in the resort's backyard. Recent guests say they enjoyed exploring Rodney Bay's dining establishments, especially since they found the two on-site restaurants to be pricey.
