This small hospitality group comprises a mere nine properties, six of which appear on the 2014 editions of U.S. News' Best Hotels in the USA and Best Hotels in Mexico rankings (Malliouhana, Auberge's property in Anguilla that appeared on the 2013 Best Hotels in the Caribbean list, will reopen in the spring of 2014 following renovations). Auberge properties are known for their elegant style, which is inspired by each hotel's location. Take the Inn at Palmetto Bluff: This boutique hotel is reminiscent of South Carolina's plantation era with dual-level porches, hardwood floors, French doors and fireplaces. Meanwhile, the Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Colo., takes its cue from traditional Rocky Mountain ski lodges, while Esperanza in Cabo San Lucas plays off of its perch along Mexico's western coast with thatched roofs and a stone façade that mimics the Baja California bluffs. Auberge also offers vacation experiences unique to each of its properties, from wine tours at Auberge du Soleil to ziplining at Calistoga Ranch (both of which can be found in Napa Valley). This hotel group caters primarily to luxury travelers, with resorts boasting gourmet cuisine and world-class spas.
