Our Take: Adjacent to the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, Casa Velas's main structure resembles a Spanish hacienda estate. Guests are wowed by the grounds — the landscaping and infinity pool of the Ocean Club evoke a sense of calm that guests adore. That serene feeling extends to Casa Velas's spa, where you can indulge in a Holistic Massage for achy muscles or a Balsamic After-Sun Wrap for sunburned skin. Meanwhile, Casa Velas's two restaurants serve up sushi, steaks and Mexican lunch treats. Once you're well-fed, bed down in one of the resort's 80 suites; each room comes appointed with a snack-filled mini-bar and cable TV. If you're looking for a little extra luxury, you may want to spring for a Grand Class Suite because of its private plunge pool. But keep in mind Casa Velas's new policy, which allows younger guests to bed down here, can detract from its relaxing atmosphere — many returning visitors say that the resort worked better as an adults-only property.
