Our Take: Since 1914, the Chatham Bars Inn has been a cozy oceanfront retreat that beckons Cape Cod visitors with its laid-back luxury. Although it isn't a classic New England bed and breakfast, the inn still gets rave reviews from recent visitors who describe the staff as very pleasant and accommodating. The décor doesn't deviate from the Cape Cod norm, with beige and blue sea motifs. The nautical color palette extends to the hotel's guest rooms and cottages, which previous guests adore for their breathtaking seaside views and coffee on the massive wraparound porch. The only complaint, according to a vocal minority, is the loud noise heard along the inn's lower floors during prime wedding season. That said, most cite the delectable New England-inspired fare served at Stars, Sacred Cod Tavern, the Main Dining Room, the Veranda, the South Lounge, and Beach House Grill as reasons to return.
