U.S. News Review

The 56-room Colony Palms Hotel caters to stylish guests looking for trendy accommodations in the heart of Palm Springs. Originally opened in 1936 by reputed mobster Al Wertheimer, this boutique property has quite the storied past: It housed an illicit brothel and speakeasy in the '30s before switching ownership and becoming the Hollywood hotspot for the next several decades. Such famed names as Frank Sinatra, Ronald Reagan and Zsa Zsa Gabor have all passed through the Colony Palms. Today, the property remains chic and trendy, with guest rooms boasting stylish red and black decor and Italian linens, as well as iPod docking stations, flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi access. For many guests, the highlight of a stay at the Colony Palms is the cuisine served at the Purple Palm Restaurant & Bar, which travelers say serves some of the best food they've ever eaten at a hotel restaurant. The in-house, Moroccan-inspired spa also earns rave reviews for its varied treatments.
