Grand Hotel Continental
It is the first and only five star hotel within the walled Siena city centre. It was opened on February 2002. This predominantly 17th century palace Designed by Baroque architect Giovanni Fontana has uncovered a remarkable series of 15th Century frescoes of high quality and in a miraculous state of preservation. It has also highlighted a medieval tower that has been incorporated in a new suite of unique character. The focal point of the hotel is a beautiful covered winter garden reminiscent of a Renaissance piazza where the huge dial of a 19th Century English church clock dominates the room from above the bar. In a context of 17th Century balustrades and arches an unashamedly 21st century glass and steel lift shaft completes this exciting combination of old and new. The hotel has a wine cellar located in the base of the medieval tower entirely dedicated to Italian produce, with 500 labels and over 3000 bottles from local winemakers old and new from all corners of Tuscany and Italy plus a few carefully selected champagnes and desert wines. The hotel offers airport transfer, baby sitting service, ballroom, banquet facilities, bar, business centre, Concierge, conference facilities, currency exchange, disabled facilities, doctor on call, dry cleaning, Internet access- high speed, internet access- wireless in the lobby and common areas, laundry service, library, Lift/Elevator, lobby, Non-smoking rooms, Parking facilities-at cost, pets allowed, reception, restaurant, room service-24hrs, safe deposit box.
