U.S. News Review

Unlike at its sister hotel, the Hotel Palomar Chicago, the Hotel Monaco lives up to many people's expectations of a Kimpton hotel, boasting bright, funky decor and an excellent location. Looking out over the Chicago River from its seat in the northeast corner of the Loop, this hotel stuns travelers with the Victorian-esque furnishings and bold patterns found throughout the hotel, including in the guest rooms. Accommodations also come with LCD televisions, honor bars and Frette linens, while kid- and pet-friendly amenities are available upon request. According to previous guests, fans of the Hotel Monaco brand will enjoy a stay in the Chicago version, particularly because of the hotel's excellent customer service. Plus, you'll find all the Kimpton extras here, including the beloved nightly wine and cheese reception and the "Guppy Love" program. (For those unfamiliar with Kimpton ways, "Guppy Love" is when they send a goldfish to your room to keep you company.) Plus, Kimpton Karma members will be able to get additional perks, like free Wi-Fi access, and can earn and redeem night credits here. But this property has a few unique characteristics worth noting. First, there are the in-room spa treatments. And let's not forget the flavorful Midwestern cuisine served at South Water Kitchen, which travelers enjoy.

Critic Reviews

“A renovated lobby featuring pops of color and texture (check out the high-gloss red alligator fabric on the registration desk), as well as redesigned meeting rooms named for international destinations such as Tokyo and Paris inspire wanderlust here; guest rooms reflect the hotel's global chic aesthetic, with steamer-trunk nightstands and Moroccan lamps.”

CBS Chicago

“The d├ęcor featured at Hotel Monaco Chicago offers much more personality than your standard banquet hall-style look.”

Travel + Leisure

“From complimentary companion goldfish (yes, bowls are included) and GM-led Segway tours to in-room spa treatments, guests don't have sacrifice personal touches for convenience at this downtown Loop boutique hotel, which overlooks the Chicago River.”
