U.S. News Review

Named after the co-founder of the Central Pacific Railroad, this hotel was bought by InterContinental in 1973. And some say that through the acquisition, the hotel lost a bit of its character, with the decor looking more dated than charming. Still, many enjoy this Nob Hill hotel and the great views of San Francisco from its in-house restaurant, Top of the Mark. Not to be confused with its sister property, the InterContinental San Francisco in SoMA, this hotel is especially popular among business travelers, who can use the 21 meeting rooms and take advantage of the property's business center and high-speed Internet connection. Leisure travelers will appreciate the hotel's proximity to popular San Fran neighborhoods like Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown, as well as the city's famed cable cars. The InterContinental Mark Hopkins also offers pillow menus and Keurig coffee makers in all of its rooms and an on-site fitness center.

Critic Reviews

Fodor's

“The hotel oozes with history, from the nearly century-old mural in the Room of the Dons, to the mini-museum off the lobby and the art installations by local Academy of Art students.”

Oyster.com

“One of the city's grandest dames, the Mark Hopkins sits regally on top of Nob Hill with dazzling views and the famous 19th-floor Top of the Mark bar. Though its elegant style and grand past earn cachet, in substance, this hotel is less impressive (and usually less expensive) than its Nob Hill neighbors”

Frommer's

“The lobby is part French chateau, part Italian renaissance with high ceilings, light-drenched sitting areas, and ornate chandeliers. The rooms and suites, all with city views, feature rich woods and fine fabrics, though they are on the smaller side thanks to the Victorian architecture style.”
