Our Take: Situated two blocks south of the Smithsonian metro station, this beautiful hotel affords picturesque views of the Tidal Basin, while favorite attractions like the Smithsonian Museums, the Washington Monument, and the Jefferson Memorial are within easy walking distance. Most guests love their stay at this Mandarin Oriental, thanks to its array of amenities—including The Spa and an on-site art gallery. The accommodations also win over recent guests thanks to their elegant walnut furnishings, soothing beige and brown color palette, and high-end amenities, like terry cloth bathrobes and high definition TVs. The only downside, according to some recent guests, is that the mattresses feel slightly worn in, preventing a good night's sleep. However, the hotel's three on-site dining venues receive high marks for their inventive menus.
