U.S. News Review

The Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago — just off the Magnificent Mile — draws attention from Chicago visitors in search of an "Old Chicago" experience. The sizable property is rumored to have been a favorite haunt of Al Capone back in the day. Having first opened in 1927, this sizable hotel features a combination of unique accents — like ornate chandeliers and antique furniture in the lobby — and contemporary fittings. Rooms boast 400-thread-count Frette bedding, minibars, spa-like bathrooms and 40-inch flat-screen TVs. Despite the updated decor, many previous visitors describe this hotel as having a lot of character, although some do lament the small size of the accommodations (a common complaint for historic properties). Meanwhile, the Millennium Knickerbocker offers a selection of facilities that suit a variety of traveler interests: The hotel's location and fitness center appeal to leisure visitors, while the on-site business center and meeting rooms earn praise from business folk. And the in-house NiX Restaurant, which serves classic American cuisine, appeals to guests and locals alike.

Critic Reviews

“The elegant two-story lobby honors the hotel's historic past, and is decorated with marble, wood moldings and warm colors. Chandeliers hang from ornate ceilings, and plants line the entrance. ”

“This beautiful gothic building dates back to the 1920s, and legend has it that Al Capone's brother, Ralph, ran a speakeasy and casino from the penthouse during Prohibition. ”
