Our Take: Infusing the Moroccan desert with the Sonoran, the Montelucia Resort & Spa offers luxury befitting of any continent. Nestled in the heart of Paradise Valley, this member of the KSL Resort family resides at the base of the scenic Camelback Mountain. Previous guests' only criticism derives from Montelucia's best attribute, the location. Getting to nearby shops and restaurants can be a challenge: A shuttle runs for part of the year, but, otherwise, you need your own car. However, many travelers say they had no problem with staying on site. Montelucia boasts a wealth of activities, from yoga classes to happy hours to guided hikes. When you need to unwind, soak up the rays by one of the resort's three pools, or book a treatment at the Joya Spa. The guestrooms also provide ideal settings for some R&R, with plush beds and deep soaking tubs. For many visitors, the highlight of their accommodations was the private patio or balcony; if you can, request a room overlooking the mountain for the best views. And though you may be far from the culinary hot spots of downtown Phoenix and Old Town Scottsdale, you're sure to enjoy the contemporary Italian fare served at the resort's AAA Four Diamond restaurant, Prado.
