How it Ranks: Royal Palms Resort and Spa ranks #3 out of 597 Phoenix Hotels based on an evaluation of expert ratings and awards, as well as user reviews. The hotel scored high enough to make the exclusive U.S. News list of the Best Hotels in the USA.
Our Take: This resort has welcomed many a VIP—including President George W. Bush back in 2004—because of its intimate, luxurious atmosphere. Guestrooms here look as if they belong in an elite Southwestern estate, boasting vibrant, jewel-toned décor, deep soaking tubs, and hand-selected furniture. Although some guests mention that the pool area can feel a little crowded, it provides much-needed respite from the blazing Arizona heat. The open-air Alvadora Spa is also nice; its outdoor rain shower removes any stress that visitors might bring with them. For some, the cuisine at the on-site restaurant, T. Cooks, is a bit of a let-down (especially given the menu prices), but most travelers enjoy the eatery's outdoor patio. Located in the Camelback Corridor, this Destination Resort is just a short drive from Old Town Scottsdale and downtown Phoenix.
