U.S. News Review

The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa is located along the coast of Ka'anapali, built into the cliffs of a small cove near the legendary "Black Rock" hardened lava formation, one of Maui's favorite snorkeling hotspots. The elevated lobby makes as much of the gorgeous vista of the nearby Ka'anapali Beach and Molokai Island as possible. Recent guests report that the impressive views helped set the tone for their stay here. This Sheraton's rooms and suites also boast impressive ocean views, as well as brightly colored decor, flat-screen TVs and, in some cases, private balconies. The Sheraton does impose a resort fee ($35 a day, plus tax), but that gets you "free" parking and Internet access in your room, as well as scheduled shuttle rides to downtown Lahaina and other local attractions. A stay here will also grant you access to the Sheraton's pool and The Spa at Black Rock, not to mention several restaurants. However, according to many guests, a stay here is not worth the high price tag — primarily because of the staff's subpar customer service.

Critic Reviews

Fodor's

“Set among dense gardens on Kaanapali's best stretch of beach, the Sheraton offers a quieter, more low-key atmosphere than its neighboring resorts and sits next to and on top of the 80-foot-high Puu Kekaa, from which divers leap in a nightly torch-lighting and cliff-diving ritual.”

Frommer's

“Rooms feature Hawaiian-inspired decor, private lanais, and trademark Sweet Sleeper beds, which live up to their name. The ohana (family) suites accommodate all ages with two double beds plus a punee (sleeping chaise).”

Oyster.com

“Built on Black Rock, a sacred Hawaiian landmark and one of the best snorkeling sites on Maui, the 508-room Sheraton has all the qualities of a modern mega-resort — clean rooms, big pool, full spa, quality gym — but nothing that compares to the enormous pool complex at the Westin Maui.”

Travel + Leisure

“Kaanapali's first resort claims Maui's best ocean setting. And that means beach activities from morning dives to astronomer-led stargazing.”

AAA

“After a $7 million complete guestroom renovation, each room introduces warm Hawaiian colors, textiles, and prints to the legendary location and offers panoramic views of lush gardens or the Pacific Ocean.”
