How it Ranks: Soniat House ranks #7 out of 348 New Orleans Hotels based on an evaluation of expert ratings and awards, as well as user reviews. The hotel scored high enough to make the U.S. News list of the Best Hotels in New Orleans.
Our Take: Soniat House is an idyllic choice for couples—the décor practically screams "rendezvous," with its four-poster beds (only available in some of the rooms), its French and Italian antique furniture, and its candlelit courtyards. And the luxuries haven't been ignored either. Each of the 18 rooms and 12 suites have Frette Egyptian linens and Molton Brown toiletries; the free afternoon cocktails are pure class, and the breakfast served each morning (not free) is pure decadence. Plus, this hotel on Chartres Street is somewhat removed from the Big Easy hoopla. Travelers give kudos to the warm staff, but they also warn that if you're expecting a luxurious atmosphere, this may not be the NOLA home base for you. Recent guests say they flocked to the Soniat House knowing it would be more like an escape into the city's bygone era and therefore tolerated some of its flaws (no in-room coffee makers and the presence of a house cat that lounges in the lobby) for the charming experience.
