Our Take: Sitting about 50 miles southeast of Salt Lake City in Sundance, Utah, the Sundance Resort makes a great home base for those looking to explore the Wasatch Mountains. The resort concierge is happy to schedule activities (from skiing to whitewater rafting to mountain biking), while the on-site Mountain Outfitters shop makes renting equipment easy. Guests love the resort's atmosphere, praising its mountain lodge style and the regional artwork on display; the signature décor is part of founder Robert Redford's original vision. Guestrooms are spacious and feature wood furnishings, Native American artwork, and amenities like Gilchrist & Soames bath products and complimentary wireless Internet. Sundance is also eco-friendly: Both the Spa at Sundance and the Tree Room restaurant are devoted to sustainability, relying on organic ingredients found locally. Unfortunately, less-than-perfect run-ins with resort staff have left some guests with little incentive to return.
