Our Take: The Drake's pampered guests love old-world elegance. Think New York's Plaza Hotel, Chicago-style. Once the preferred choice of both Winston Churchill and Princess Diana, this Gold Coast outpost knows how to deliver on decadence. Unlike its more trendy neighbors, The Drake boasts a distinctly vintage luxury, featuring high ceilings, upholstered walls, and glittering chandeliers. Though recent guests admit the hotel could use some remodeling, they also say the hotel's old-fashioned style is exactly what makes it so charming. Guest rooms include the Hilton's signature Serenity bed, Italian marble bathrooms, and lake or city views. If you really want to blend in with the posh clientele, go to the traditional English tea served in the Palm Court every afternoon.
