U.S. News Review

Travelers love the Old World elegance than defines The Drake Hotel: think New York's Plaza Hotel done Chicago-style. Once the preferred choice of both Winston Churchill and Princess Diana, this Gold Coast neighborhood outpost knows how to deliver a quality experience. (If you really want to blend in with the posh clientele while you're here, recent guests suggest attending the traditional English tea service in the Palm Court, offered every afternoon.) Unlike its trend-setting neighbors, The Drake boasts a distinctly vintage ambiance with high ceilings, upholstered walls and glittering chandeliers. Though recent guests admit the hotel could use some remodeling, they also say the hotel's old-fashioned style is exactly what makes it so charming. As a member of the Hilton Hotels portfolio, guest rooms include signature Serenity beds, as well as more unique features like Italian marble bathrooms and period furnishings. But that doesn't mean you won't find modern technology: Accommodations are also equipped with HD flat-screen TVs and high-speed Internet access (for a fee). Plus, if you're a member of the Hilton HHonors program, you can accrue or redeem points here.

Critic Reviews

“In addition to the elegant guest rooms, this long-established Chicago landmark features a jaw-dropping lobby and a popular afternoon tea served in a luxurious salon within sight of the lobby.”
Award: AAA/CAA Four Diamond Lodgings 2015

“The beautiful lobby was inspired by an Italian Renaissance palace, and the sounds of a fountain and harpist beckon at the Palm Court, a traditional setting for afternoon tea, especially appealing during the winter holidays.”

National Geographic Traveler

“1920 grand dame of Magnificent Mile; well located for shoppers.”

USA Today

“Chicago's Magnificent Mile welcomed this new luxury hotel on New Year's Eve in 1920, and it soon gained international fame by hosting the Prince of Wales. ”

“The comfortable rooms don't have quite as much character, but those facing north offer only-in-Chicago views of Lake Michigan and Lake Shore Drive. ”
