U.S. News Review

Named for the former tenants of the site — Secretary of State John Hay and journalist Henry Adams (who was also a member of the presidential Adams family) — The Hay-Adams is steeped in American history. Perched on the edge of Lafayette Square, The Hay-Adams boasts a spectacular vantage point of the White House and the National Mall. Here, guests are greeted by head-to-toe period decor; the lobby is decked out in rich wooden paneling and marble floors, while guest rooms feature neutral tones with elegant bedspreads. Long story short: If you're a history buff, The Hay-Adams is the place for you. That said, this property isn't completely stuck in the past. Accommodations also house lavish Asprey London bath products, 37-inch flat-screen TVs and Bose music systems. Meanwhile, The Lafayette — the hotel's elegant dining room — garners high praise from recent guests for its impeccable service, tasty culinary offerings, and impressive views of the White House.

Critic Reviews

“Quite possibly the most famous hotel in the capital, and deservedly so. The Hay-Adams draws powerbrokers from around the world with its impeccable service, great bar and restaurant, and elegant rooms, some of which overlook its famous next-door neighbor.”

Travel + Leisure

“One of the city's finest hotels, this rebuilt 19th-century residence also boasts what is arguably the city's best location: directly across Lafayette Park from the White House, with knockout views of the famous mansion from the sixth, seventh, and eighth floors.”
Award: Travel + Leisure 500 World's Best Hotels 2015

Lonely Planet

“Today the hotel has a palazzo-style lobby and probably the best rooms of the old-school luxury genre in the city, all puffy mattresses like clouds shaded by four-poster canopies and gold-braid tassels, the sort of chamber you call a chambre, where you drink champagne from a crystal shoe and light cigars with $100 bills.”
