U.S. News Review

The Kahala Hotel & Resort — located a few miles from Diamond Head on the coast of the posh Kahala neighborhood — has played host to a long list of ritzy clients. Even lovebirds Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton came to stay at this Honolulu landmark after their marriage in 1964. So naturally, the rooms are fairly posh, featuring teak parquet floors, mahogany furnishings and grass-cloth covered walls. Previous guests especially like the deep-soaking tubs and the private balconies or patios that come attached to every room. While you're here, take a break from the Honolulu hustle and bustle with a massage at The Kahala Spa, or simply kick back and relax in one of the cozy cabanas that line the pool. The hotel also boasts an 800-foot stretch of beautiful white sand beach, so you won't have to worry about fighting crowds for a spot on the shore. While you're here, recent visitors highly recommend taking advantage of Dolphin Quest: The Kahala grounds encompass a 26,000-square-foot lagoon where guests can swim with bottlenose dolphins. Afterward, enjoy a gourmet meal at one of the hotel's multiple restaurants.

Critic Reviews

“Hidden away in the upscale residential neighborhood of Kahala ... this elegant oceanfront hotel has played host to celebrities, princesses, the Dalai Lama, and nearly every president since Lyndon Johnson as one of Hawaii's very first luxury resorts.”
Award: Fodor's Choice

“A celebrity retreat since 1964, the newly renovated Kahala is quite possibly the best hotel in Oahu. Yet its vibe is more 'family fun' than 'pretentious glitz' ...”
