Our Take: The Phoenician has long been the standard by which all other Valley of the Sun resorts have been measured. It's not hard to see why; for one thing, the setting is unbelievable. When reserving your room, ask for accommodations with views of Camelback Mountain; even if they're all booked, recent visitors say that you won't be too disappointed, as all rooms feature elegant furnishings, Italian marble bathrooms, and private balconies or patios. But this Luxury Collection property wasn't designed for shut-ins: This 250-acre encompasses a 27-hole championship golf course, a tennis complex, a full-service spa, and 10 restaurants and lounges. Oh, and did we forget to mention the $25 million art collection on site? Yeah, it's that sumptuous of a place. What's more, previous visitors claim that the customer service here is just as impressive as the resort itself. And because it belongs to the Starwood Hotels & Resorts group, Preferred Guest loyalty program members can trade in their points for free nights and room upgrades.
