Our Take: Hugged by the saguaro-laden hills of Marana, Ariz.—26 miles north of downtown Tucson—this Ritz opts for trendy over tradition, with contemporary art and funky furniture dominating the décor. And although The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain may not deliver true hacienda living, recent guests say that they're more than willing to skip the Southwestern style and stay here. (Besides, if you're craving a true taste of the region, you can simply make dinner reservations CORE Kitchen & Wine Bar.) The on-site spa and pool area make a great setting for some R&R, while golfers give high praise to the 27-hole, Jack Nicklaus-designed course. Travelers also appreciated the low-key elegance of the guestrooms, where plush fabrics feel homey while high-end features (like deep soaking tubs and private balconies) feel deluxe. Yet despite all of its positive aspects, guests say it's the staff's friendliness that truly makes their stay memorable. Because this resort resides under the Marriott umbrella, members of the company's loyalty program can use points for additional perks.
