Our Take: Perched on Green Island in Bolton Landing, N.Y., The Sagamore caters to families with its plentiful lodging options. The resort features 137 classic hotel-style guest rooms that can be found in the Historic Hotel, while more affordable rooms and suites are tucked in The Lodges. Then there's The Hermitage and Wapanak Castle, two distinct buildings usually rented out to families as well as large groups. Recent guests recommend kid-friendly amenities like Sagamore Kids Camp and The Rec, an all-ages activity center with Nintendo Wii stations, arcade games, and even an indoor mini golf course. And the Lake George waterfront activities—kayaking, canoeing and fishing—are popular pastimes as well. After participating in outdoor pursuits, you can retreat to one of the resort's seven on-site eateries. Although recent guests concede the meals here are pricey, they say they're well worth the cost, citing top-notch service and delicious bites as particularly memorable. Note: The Sagamore is currently undergoing renovations that are expected to be complete in April 2013.
