U.S. News Review

Located on Amelia Island (about 35 miles northeast of Jacksonville), this resort's villas each offer lush views of the surrounding trees, the golf course or the ocean. And to recent guests, the accommodations are large enough (offered as one-, two- and three-bedroom units) to room at least five vacationers, making this a great option for families. There are also plenty of activities to entertain guests of all ages. Kids can make new friends in the Camp Amelia program while parents play a round on one of three golf courses. There are also 23 fast-dry clay tennis courts, bikes for rent, sponsored nature tours, fishing boats to charter and a spa that offers yoga classes. If you prefer to do things as a family, sign up for a Segway tour of the island. Like any Florida resort worth its salt, The Villas of Amelia Island Plantation boasts a variety of restaurants, but unlike some Florida hotels, the rates are described as reasonable. You'll find The Villas of Amelia Island on First Coast Highway, centrally positioned on the island.

Critic Reviews

“With over 1,350 lush beachfront acres of manicured golf greens, bike trails, and a breathtaking coastal wilderness of marshes and lagoons, this massive resort is so spread out that a free tram runs around the grounds every 15 minutes.”

“All hotel rooms are oceanfront, with private balconies or patios. If the sound of waves crashing on the beach doesn't lull you to sleep, the luxurious beds and bedding should do the trick.”
