Our Take: The Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa is a relic of vintage, pre-megaresort Maui. But this Marriott isn't some faded antique. After a multi-million-dollar renovation in 2006, its upgrades include wicker seating on each room's balcony (or terrace, depending on the floor) and Mala Wailea, a restaurant that specialized in Mediterranean and Pacific Rim cuisin. Recent guests gab about the friendly service staff and infinity pool, but reserve the most praise the hotel's location. There is plenty to do just minutes from the property, including snorkeling at Uliua Beach, shopping at the Shops at Wailea, and dining at one of the bevy of local restaurants nearby.
