|About these ratings|
Many tourists choose to take Tram 28 through the Alfama neighborhood because it's so hilly, but whether you choose to burn some calories or contend with the tram crowds, a visit to the Alfama is a must. Founded long ago with a history that dates back to the Moors, Alfama is characterized by narrow, winding streets that pass by shops, restaurants, Fado clubs, as well as popular attractions like St. George's Castle and the Sé Cathedral. Use common sense when traipsing Alfama's streets at night (and when riding Tram 28); pickpockets and muggers are not infrequent guests.
