| About these ratings | ||
The Black Dog's pooch-themed gear and baked goods (for humans) have achieved icon status on the island -- despite some chagrin from the locals. And yes, there are now 18 Black Dog storefronts -- three on the Vineyard alone -- but you're simply not cool if you haven't made a pilgrimage here. Luckily, The Black Dog Bakery is conveniently located right next door to the ferry stop in Vineyard Haven; Its harbor-side locale -- complete with the souvenir gift shop in the back-- is convenient for snagging a snack and a signature sweatshirt before your boat drags you back to the mainland.
Recent travelers give mixed reviews on the menu though. According to one Yelp.com user: "Sure, the chocolate chip cookie wasn't brilliant, I'll admit, but it was soft and sugary and sweet (with a few tweaks it could have been better)." Other guests rave about the pastries baked fresh daily, especially the sugar donuts.
The Black Dog Bakery is open every day from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. You'll find the bakery off of Water Street, right next door to the ferry docks in Vineyard Haven.
