About these ratings

Two years ago, Islands of Adventure was the home of fun "islands" like Jurassic Park, the Toon Lagoon and Seuss Landing, but it wasn't extra special compared to the rest of Universal Orlando Resort. Now, the park has opened its seventh isle, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. And to say that this magical themed attraction is a game changer would perhaps be selling it short. The downside to the popularity is the crowds and lengthy wait times. One TripAdvisor traveler notes, "We queued for over 2 hours just to get into the village the first time," but still, "we were not disappointed, despite the enormous crowds." For a little less stress and people, head to Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade village when the park first opens, at 9 a.m.

Luckily, the other islands of adventure are still more than just entertaining. An IgoUgo.com writer says the Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls, themed after the Canadian Rockies, "makes you feel as if you're actually riding the mountains, slipping and sliding down the tallest slopes on a thrilling and adventurous journey." Another IgoUgo vacationer describes The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man this way: "Part dark ride, part simulator, and part 4D show, this is an award-winning attraction the likes of which can't be found anywhere else in the world." A Yelp.com user says that whether you loved Dr. Seuss or not, his themed land is "Fantastic and fun for kids of all ages; there is not one straight line on a building or in the vegetation here. Even the palm trees are crooked."

Universal's Islands of Adventure opens every day at 9 a.m., but closing hours range from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., depending on season. Admission to just this Universal park costs $82 for adults, $74 for children age three to nine. Check the resort's official website for specific hours of operation, plus additional information on the other themed parks. And keep in mind that Flex combo tickets (which include admission to this park and five or six others in the area) cost anywhere between $244 and $300, depending on package and age.
