About these ratings

Arizona's red-desert landscape is a feast for the eyes, but beauty doesn't just lie on the surface. For years, the Grand Canyon State churned out tons of precious metals and minerals, including copper, silver and gold. At the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum, exhibits focus specifically on the natural wonders found beneath this states rocky, cacti-covered plane. You can spend several hours learning about (and trying to pronounce the names of) the breathtaking stones on display, but if geology isn't your forte, one to two hours should be enough.

Sitting several blocks east of the Arizona State Capitol in Downtown Phoenix, the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the museum is about $2 for adults and free for children 17 and under.
