The Blue Parrot Beach Club has been a Playa del Carmen staple for years, and most people will suggest that this is the premier beach bar to soak up some rays, hear some eclectic tunes and toss back a few drinks. But recent guests give it a damning report. A TripAdvisor user sums up a reoccurring theme in traveler reviews: "We knew we had 5 buckets of beer with 5 bottles each. The server brought us a bill for 38 beers, 6 waters, and 2 mixed drinks. He was trying to claim that there were 8 bottles of beer in each of the buckets when they clearly wouldn't hold more than 5. We also caught him twice trying to walk away with one of our buckets that still had a beer left in it."
Instead of making the Blue Parrot your main watering hole, you might want to just visit between 10:30 and 11 p.m. for the fire show, which fares better in travelers' memories. According to an IgoUgo.com writer, the dancers "twirl fire-lit batons and swing flaming balls on a chain … they even dance in the fire on the floor. They're all very energetic and talented, definitely worth seeing at least once during your vacation."
This beach club shares space on La Quinta with a Blue Parrot boutique hotel and the Playasia Restaurant. Visit the club's website for more information.
