Taking a trip to the Museum of Prehistoric Thira is a great way to finish exploring the ruins of Santorini's ancient cities. This tiny museum in the heart of Thira houses frescoes and other archaeological treasures found during the excavation of Ancient Akrotiri, as well as other digs sites around the Aegean Islands. Some of the pieces here date back several thousand years and offer insight into early human life on the Greek Islands, making this an interesting place to check out if you're interested in history.
On the other hand, some visitors were disappointed by the museum's small size. As one recent visitor tells TripAdvisor, "They had a lot of interesting items on display but sadly I think the bulk gets shipped to the bigger museums in Athens."
The Museum of Prehistoric Thira is open Tuesday through Sunday from 8:30 to 3 p.m. Admission is about $4 USD (€3) per person.
