About these ratings

If you're visiting Savannah for the history, this is a good place to get your bearings. This small yet effective museum details Savannah's past from its founding right up to the present day, offering you a bit of background to take with you as you check out the city's other historic sites. Some of the highlights include an exhibit devoted to the Revolutionary War Battle of Savannah, one of Johnny Mercer's Academy Awards and the bench on which Forrest Gump told stories as he waited for the bus.

While some recent visitors agree that a quick trip to this museum is a good way to get to know the city, others recommend that you breeze past and let the city speak for itself.

The Savannah History Museum sits on the northwest corner of the Historic District and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 2 to 12. For more information, check out the museum's section on the Coastal Heritage Society website.
