| About these ratings | ||
Often referred to as "the world's only drive-in volcano," this belching mountain in the central western town of Soufrière emits more gas than lava. So remember to hold your nose (the site is also known as "Sulfur Springs") to protect yourself from the overpowering rotten egg smell. And if you have a full vacation itinerary of enjoying the beaches or exploring the Pitons, you might want to pass on Mount Soufrière altogether. Still, "the drive to the volcano was gorgeous," says one TripAdvisor traveler. "The mountain roads are not as scary as those in Dominica. I highly recommend visiting here." Also keep in mind that "drive-in" really means "drive right up on, not inside." After you've reached the crater base, you're free to explore and snap photos of the surrounding sulfur pools.
You can visit Mount Soufrière any day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a minimal fee.
