Most Virgin Islands vacationers love the chance to sample Cruzan Rum on its island of origin, and you should do the same at Frederiksted's rum distillery. "It takes all of about 20 minutes and the rest of the day you can spend sitting in the visitor center bar getting drunk on RUM," notes one TripAdvisor writer. Guides will teach you about the distillery and bottling process and even mix you up a sample of some of the best cocktails. Favorites include the "Cruzan Sunset," the "Rum Cream" and the "Rush Hour."
But when tasting turns to buying, those in-the-know suggest you leave the bottles at the distillery. "It's cheaper at the Kmart (just up the street on Highway 70), and you get a carrying box for the six bottles," recounts an IgoUgo.com reviewer.
