How it Ranks: Azamara Journey ranks #1 out of 2 Azamara Club Cruises Cruise Ships based on an analysis of expert and user ratings, as well as health ratings.

The 686-passenger Azamara Journey attracts those who like large-ship amenities and enriching onboard programs (think expert-led lecture series and sommelier-led wine tastings) without the crowds. With 408 crew members, Journey offers a higher level of personalization than today's floating resorts, which can lack the comfortable quarters and tailored onboard experiences of smaller ships. Past cruisers especially praise the staff's close attention to detail and the ship's public spaces, describing the two pool areas as "immaculate" and never overly packed. While interior staterooms are appointed with fresh flowers, minibars and flat-screen TVs, those staying in a suite are granted extras like butler service, in-suite dining and complimentary reservations at specialty venues (guests occupying standard cabins must pay an additional $25 to eat at specialty restaurants). Azamara Journey debuted in 2007, but thanks to a 2013 renovation, the ship now features a caviar and Champagne bar in the Aqualina restaurant, a new chef's table and new chaise lounges. With four informal venues, a main dining room, and two specialty restaurants travelers have plenty of dining choices. The ship also offers a complimentary culture immersion program, known as AzAmazing Evenings, as well as a variety of other nightly entertainment options, from live music at the Looking Glass Lounge to musical revues at the Cabaret Lounge to roulette, blackjack and poker at Casino Luxe. Before docking at the next port of call, guests can partake in enrichment programs, such as cooking classes or Photoshop lessons, or recharge at the spa, among other activities. Journey sails around the globe, with 2015 itineraries covering the West Indies, South America, the Panama Canal and the Mediterranean.

Disclaimers about ship ratings: A ship's Health Rating is based on vessel inspection scores published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If a ship did not receive a CDC score within 22 months prior to the calculation of its Overall Rating, its Health Rating appears as N/A; in such a case, the ship's Overall Rating is calculated using the average Health Rating of all CDC-rated ships within the cruise line. All ship Traveler Ratings are based on ratings provided under license by Cruiseline.com.
