How it Ranks: Carnival Fascination ranks #21 out of 24 Carnival Cruise Lines Cruise Ships based on an analysis of expert and user ratings, as well as health ratings.

Carnival Fascination has undergone a series of renovations since it first launched in 1994, bringing it up to date with many of Carnival's latest "Fun Ship 2.0" innovations. The 2,056-passenger Fascination now includes WaterWorks (complete with several pools and waterslides), the Serenity Adult Retreat (a relaxing escape with lounge chairs and whirlpools that offers a break from younger passengers) and the Punchliner Comedy Club. Speaking of rooms, Carnival Fascination's lodging ranges in size and style, from compact Interior and Ocean View staterooms to expansive Balcony and Suite category rooms, all of which include TVs and 24-hour room service. Dining options, however, are not as varied as other Carnival ships. Cruisers can grab food at the Lido Buffet or two main dining rooms, or venture to The Taste Bar for daily appetizers. Those looking to spring for a memorable meal can also indulge in the Chef's Table experience, which includes cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, a tour of the kitchen operation and a three-course meal (for a $75 fee). Guests looking for a jolt of caffeine can also head to the Coffee Bar for desserts, specialty coffee and tea. Meanwhile, the spa provides peace and quiet and the fitness center offers yoga and Pilates classes for those looking to stay active at sea. For the younger set, the ship features innovative kids programs and amenities, like the City Sports Park, which offers mini-golf, pingpong and shuffleboard, along with age-appropriate kids and teens clubs designed for guests ages 2 to 17. Overall, past cruisers praise Carnival Fascination for its budget-friendly prices, though some do complain that the ship lacks the modern dining venues found on Carnival's newer ships. That said, the ship's low 1-to-2 crew-to-passenger ratio (and the friendly demeanor of the staff) was a major draw for previous cruisers.

Disclaimers about ship ratings: A ship's Health Rating is based on vessel inspection scores published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If a ship did not receive a CDC score within 22 months prior to the calculation of its Overall Rating, its Health Rating appears as N/A; in such a case, the ship's Overall Rating is calculated using the average Health Rating of all CDC-rated ships within the cruise line. All ship Traveler Ratings are based on ratings provided under license by Cruiseline.com.
