How it Ranks: Carnival Freedom ranks #2 out of 24 Carnival Cruise Lines Cruise Ships based on an analysis of expert and user ratings, as well as health ratings.

Introduced in 2007, Carnival Freedom offers a wide variety of onboard programming and activities. And thanks to a major facelift in 2014, the ship features "Fun Ship 2.0" amenities, like the EA Sports Bar, where guests can catch live sporting events on large flat-screen TVs and the Alchemy Bar, which serves up unique cocktails. Carrying nearly 3,000 passengers, Carnival Freedom offers plenty of daytime diversions, from poolside lounging at one of four main pool areas to swinging at a 9-hole mini-golf course or unwinding in Serenity, an adult-only retreat. Food options are just as versatile, with two main dining rooms, a steakhouse and the Lido Deck, which offers menu items from celebrity chef Guy Fieri at Guy's Burger Joint, tacos at burritos at BlueIguana Cantina and custom-order stir-fry at the Mongolian Wok. Those with a hankering for sweets will enjoy Cherry On Top, the ship's colorful candy bar. And if you want to bring the whole clan, you'll find children's activities abound: The ship's Seuss at Sea program offers story times and character breakfasts for kids ages 2 to 5 and the Camp Ocean program allows youngsters ages 2 to 11 to stay busy with activities like volleyball and trivia. As for cabins, cruisers can choose between an Interior, Ocean View or Balcony stateroom or a suite, all of which are equipped with TVs, safes and minibars, and feature 24-hour room service. And while the ship may carry nearly 3,000 passengers, quality service isn't sacrificed, reviewers note. Plus, the ship offers a higher level of personalization than its 4,000-plus passenger competitors thanks to a low 3-to-1 guest to crew ratio.

Disclaimers about ship ratings: A ship's Health Rating is based on vessel inspection scores published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If a ship did not receive a CDC score within 22 months prior to the calculation of its Overall Rating, its Health Rating appears as N/A; in such a case, the ship's Overall Rating is calculated using the average Health Rating of all CDC-rated ships within the cruise line. All ship Traveler Ratings are based on ratings provided under license by Cruiseline.com.
