How it Ranks: Crystal Symphony ranks #1 out of 2 Crystal Cruises Cruise Ships based on an analysis of expert and user ratings, as well as health ratings.

Thanks to a $15 million facelift in September 2014, Crystal Symphony (first launched in 1995) now boasts a handful of innovative amenities and renovated areas, including updated spa and casino venues and an outdoor Fitness Garden with cardio training machines. Though these new features are unique, it's Crystal Symphony's superior customer service that sets it apart from its luxury competitors, past cruisers said. While the ship can carry up to 922 guests, it never feels crowded thanks to an abundance of quiet onboard areas and a low passenger-to-crew ratio, with 545 staff members catering to guests. Another calling card is the ship's onboard entertainment offerings (language, cooking and Asian woodblock-printing lessons are available). There are also a number of other facilities and enrichment programs available through the ship's Creative Learning Institute. What's more, the Feng Shui-inspired Crystal Spa offers unique treatments like Japanese Silk Booster Facials and Aroma Stone massages for guests looking to unwind. As for accommodations, about 58 percent offer verandas (all staterooms afford ocean views), and each comes outfitted with a flat-screen TV, a large bathroom with a bathtub, a double sink and Aveda products, and Wi-Fi access (for a fee). Guests staying in a Penthouse category room are treated to extra privileges like complimentary welcome Champagne, afternoon canapés, free Internet access and butler service. Previous cruisers were equally impressed with the ship's extensive culinary offerings, which tout menu items selected by acclaimed chefs Nobu Matsuhisa and Piero Selvaggio. Along with the specialty dining restaurants Prego and Silk Road and The Sushi Bar, the ship offers eight other eateries. Crystal Symphony's 2015 sailings will include Asia, the Pacific Coast, New England and Canada, the Panama Canal, northern Europe, South America, the Caribbean, the Arctic Circle and a trans-Atlantic crossing from Amsterdam to New York.

Disclaimers about ship ratings: A ship's Health Rating is based on vessel inspection scores published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If a ship did not receive a CDC score within 22 months prior to the calculation of its Overall Rating, its Health Rating appears as N/A; in such a case, the ship's Overall Rating is calculated using the average Health Rating of all CDC-rated ships within the cruise line. All ship Traveler Ratings are based on ratings provided under license by Cruiseline.com.
