How it Ranks: Silver Shadow ranks #3 out of 5 Silversea Cruises Cruise Ships based on an analysis of expert and user ratings, as well as health ratings.

Along with its sister ship, Silver Whisper, Silver Shadow is defined by its "Millennium Class" designation. These two ships are slightly larger than Silver Cloud and Silver Wind (though not as big as Silver Spirit). They're also among the most recent to be refurbished: Silver Whisper received a renovation in 2010, while Silver Shadow underwent an upgrade in 2011. Built in 2000, Silver Shadow welcomes 382 passengers and 302 crew members, maintaining a nearly 1-to-1 staff-to-guest ratio. For past cruisers, it's the crew's attention to detail and genial attitude that help set Silver Shadow apart from its competitors. Accommodations are just as highly regarded. All suites, which range in size from 287 to 1,435 square feet, boast ocean vistas with more than 80 percent featuring a private teak balcony. Though not every cabin comes with a balcony, all accommodations offer butler service, twin beds that convert to queen-sized beds, Pratesi bed linens, full baths and separate showers and minifridges. When guests aren't in their rooms, they can take advantage of the ship's facilities like the casino, the spa and the pool, not to mention the variety of restaurants. Following suit with other Silversea ships, Silver Shadow offers four dining venues, including Le Champagne — a Relais & Châteaux-affiliated restaurant passengers can enjoy for an extra fee. As for nighttime entertainment, passengers have their pick between several cocktail lounges (including a Lampadina, a casino bar) and Athenian, the ship's performance venue.

Disclaimers about ship ratings: A ship's Health Rating is based on vessel inspection scores published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If a ship did not receive a CDC score within 22 months prior to the calculation of its Overall Rating, its Health Rating appears as N/A; in such a case, the ship's Overall Rating is calculated using the average Health Rating of all CDC-rated ships within the cruise line.
