About these ratings

Points

Starwood rewards, known as Starpoints, can be earned and used at more than 1,000 hotels around the world. You can also earn Starpoints on everyday purchases using the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card from American Express.

Earning Points

Starwood's Preferred Guest program is fairly straightforward: the more nights you spend at participating hotels, the faster you'll earn a free night. You can also earn Starpoints by dining in hotel restaurants, indulging in a treatment at the on-site spa and using pay-for-data services like Internet access or in-room movie rentals. You can earn two points per dollar spent on stays at any Westin, St. Regis, W, Sheraton, Le Méridien, Luxury Collection, Aloft, Element or Four Points by Sheraton hotel. Every dollar spent in a Starwood-affiliated hotel will earn you two Starpoints. You can also earn one Starpoint for every dollar you spend on everyday purchases if you sign up for the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card from American Express. Should your accumulated points fall short of the amount you need, you can buy additional points through the Starwood Preferred Guest website.

Using Points

You can use the points you've accrued to cover the cost of your hotel room, upgrade your hotel room or pay for additional hotel expenses at any of Starwood's nine brands. The number of points needed to cover the cost of a night's stay depends on the hotel and room type.
