Shea's Performing Arts Center#5 in Best Things To Do in Buffalo
If you want a little Broadway on your Buffalo vacation, look no further than Shea's Performing Arts Center. Opened in 1926 as a venue for silent films, the center hosts touring Broadway troupes and other special events. Several decades ago, a group of community leaders saved the building from destruction by getting it listed on the National Historic Registry. Today, the theater continues to be renovated, but even still, the interior is pretty magnificent — you'll see a sea of plush red seats surrounded by a lavish stage and a richly colored ceiling.
One TripAdvisor user recommends stopping by the theater even if you don't have time for a show: "Just take a look at the stage and facilities ... You'll think you stepped into a theater in Paris. It's over the top ornate and a true gem."
Ticket prices and show times vary. If you don't have the time for a show, you can peek inside between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, as well as 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday if there isn't a performance. You'll find the center on Main Street in downtown Buffalo. For more information, visit the center's website.
