Best Times to Visit Cambridge, MA

The best time to visit Cambridge is from June to October. Though June, July and August see plenty of tourists, university students from the area head elsewhere, making it easier to get around. Fall, meanwhile, sees a dip in accommodation rates and an abundance of fall foliage. Spring is another good time to visit, with more deals to be had than summer, while winter generally offers the town's lowest hotel prices. Just don't forget your winter coat and boots!

June-October

Average temperatures during the summer range from the 70s to the 80s. It is worth noting, though, that this season is also one of the most expensive times to visit Cambridge. Come October, average daytime temperatures will range between the mid-40s and low 60s. Leaf peepers will want to plan a trip for early fall when the area's trees start to change.

Key Events:

November-February

Generally, temperatures range from the low 20s to as high as the 50s in winter, but it's best to be ready with the right winter gear for snow and frigid temps. If you don't mind the chilly climes, you'll be rewarded with discounted hotel rates. Plus, you can take advantage of seasonal ice rinks at Kendall Square and Harvard University.

Key Events:

March-May

In spring, the city begins to warm up, with average temperatures in the 30s. However, snowfall in April is not unheard of. Dress like a local by wearing lots of layers, and be prepared for anything. If you're visiting in May, you may encounter higher accommodation rates at area hotels thanks to the many commencement ceremonies that take place every spring.
