February-May

Most travelers vacation in Dominica during the winter and spring months when the weather is warm and dry. Crowds aren't too terrible this time of year, but the room rates are high. If you do decide to visit during this period, be sure to reserve your room well in advance to ensure a decent price. Also, be sure to plan your sightseeing for when cruise ships are not docked because cruises often flood the already crowded attractions.

Key Events:

June-September

The few tourists Dominica sees all but disappear this time of year, and for good reason. The island's rainy and hurricane seasons are in full swing, especially between late August and early September. (Dominica was decimated by Hurricane Maria in 2017.) But room rates are attractively cheap in these months, so pack your umbrella and keep an eye on the hurricane report if you feel like risking it.

Key Events:

October-January

It's still technically rainy season, but if you can bear a few cloudy days you'll be rewarded with great hotel deals. Peak precipitation tapers off in December and January and is paired with temps in the mid-80s, which is perfect for both hiking and beach going.

Key Events:

  • Carnival (January)
  • Independence Celebrations (Nov. 3)
