Rising above the Pacific Ocean on a verdant bluff in Punta Diamante, Banyan Tree Cabo Marqués certainly impresses visitors with its picturesque surroundings. Its villas are built into the cliff, offering panoramic ocean views. Each comes appointed with a heated pool, sun deck and terrace, all of which are made from locally sourced materials. With a fusion of Asian and Latin American design elements, the resort offers what it calls a "holistic Asian ambiance," signature to the Banyan Tree brand. Though this New Age aura permeates the entire five-star property, it's perhaps most noticeable at the spa, where therapists pamper visitors with East-meets-West massage techniques. Seeking more relaxation? Take a dip in the hotel's infinity pool, a favorite feature among past guests. Afterward, cap off your day with gourmet Thai dishes served at Saffron, a preferred dining spot, or sample the Latin- and Asian-inspired plates at La Nao or the flavorful seafood entrees at Las Rocas Grill & Bar. Members of AccorHotels' loyalty program will especially enjoy their stays knowing they can earn and redeem points at this location.

A modern architectural stand-out in Acapulco's Las Brisas neighborhood (across the bay from Pie de la Cuesta), Hotel Encanto is a stylish, adults-only addition to the hotel landscape. The minimalist architecture and bold, neon lighting continually win over design-conscious guests. Rooms are simple but trendy, outfitted with Wi-Fi, blackout curtains, L'Occitane toiletries and balconies with ocean views. Often described by guests as "futuristic," Hotel Encanto plays up its impossibly cool vibe with ambient LCD lighting and a black bottom infinity edge pool. Aside from the tranquil and secluded surroundings, previous guests praise the hotel's restaurant, Origen, which offers imaginative takes on traditional Mexican specialties created by Mexican celebrity chef Mónica Patiño. Other on-site facilites include a fitness center and spa.

Sprawling across 40 lush cliffside acres overlooking Acapulco Bay, Las Brisas Acapulco boasts spectacular views and an atmosphere that is both romantic and kid-friendly. All casitas (bungalow-style guest rooms) include a semi-private or private plunge pool, a secluded terrace and complimentary sweet rolls and coffee delivered every morning. Venture to the resort's private beach club and you'll have your pick of two saltwater tide pools overlooking the scenic bay or a large freshwater pool with a swim-up bar. While you're sipping tropical libations poolside, the kids can have some fun of their own with Little Angels Club. Children ages 4 to 12 can play team games, build sandcastles or burn off some energy on the playground. And when it's time to fuel up, you can grab a table at one of three hotel restaurants. If you're celebrating a special occasion, you can also arrange for a private candlelit dinner in your casita.

If you're one of those travelers who's perpetually worried about whether or not you'll make your flight, Resort Mundo Imperial is your safe haven. The resort is a stone's throw from the Acapulco International Airport (less than 2 miles) and close to some of southern Mexico's signature beaches. But just because some may classify Resort Mundo Imperial as an airport hotel doesn't mean amenities are few and far between. The property boasts six pools, one of which is a wave pool (a traveler favorite), a kids club, a business center, a gym, a spa and three tennis courts. Resort Mundo also takes it up a notch with its entertainment options. Along with two bars, the resort features two indoor stages and one outdoor theater that can hold up to 800 people. There are also six restaurants to choose from with cuisine types ranging from regional Mexican fare to Italian to Asian. Much like the rest of the hotel, the rooms are decidedly modern, featuring a mostly white color palette, sleek wood furnishings, desks with leather ergonomic chairs, flat-screen TVs and walk-in showers. Despite various creature comforts, many guests express disappointment in the lack of beachfront at this Acapulco resort, even though several beaches are just a short drive away.

Set along the crowded sands of Playa Condesa in Acapulco, Mexico, the Fiesta Americana Villas Acapulco makes an ideal getaway for visitors looking to stay in the heart of the city. However, with this prime location comes a rollicking night scene and constant street traffic. Recent guests suggest requesting an ocean-facing room on one of the upper floors for more peace and quiet. All guest rooms at this Fiesta Americana property come equipped with standard amenities, like air conditioning, minibars, cable TVs, Wi-Fi access (for an extra fee) and private balconies, but past lodgers recommend booking a junior suite for a little more space to sprawl out. And if your room doesn't come with a spectacular ocean view, head to one of the three pools and gaze across Acapulco Bay while you savor refreshing drinks and small bites. Meanwhile, kids can enjoy organized activities at the Fiesta Kids Club, as well as water sports. Afterward, cap off your day together at one of the hotel's three restaurants or check out the Condesa food scene.

Depending on your view, the Quinta Real Acapulco is either outdated or a vintage classic. Anchored on Punta Diamante beach (in Acapulco's Golden Zone), Quinta Real Acapulco is frequently lauded by guests for its peaceful atmosphere. Each of the 61 suites boasts an oversized bathroom, satellite TV, sea-inspired accents, local artwork and sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. While guests lament the antiquated accents, they don't seem to mind giving the hotel major kudos for the pool. Though compact, the pool – which faces the khaki-colored sands of the beach – is both relaxing and well-staffed, according to past visitors. In fact, some guests preferred the poolside eats to the high-end Mexican and international dishes found at the on-site Restaurante Buenavista. Because the property is part of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts portfolio, members of the I Prefer program can earn or redeem points here.

Stretching across an 81-acre property next to Puerto Marques Bay, Camino Real Acapulco Diamante appeals to families craving seclusion. Don't worry, you're not marooned: Central Acapulco is just a 6-mile drive north. Rooms at this Camino Real locale are spacious and come equipped with marble floors, private balconies and air conditioning to keep things cool in the sweltering afternoon sun. Another way to beat the heat: Take a dip in one of the hotel's three pools. Overlooking the Pacific and shaded by towering palms, the pools (one of which is especially designed for kids) offer sweeping views of the bay. But while most guests praise the expansive pool area, some lament the hotel's small, private beach. If you're looking to lounge on a larger shoreline, consider booking a room closer to Avenida Costera Miguel Alemán, Acapulco's main street. You'll be closer to the city's top to-dos and enjoy access to a wider variety of eateries. Some reviewers also describe the food at Camino Real Acapulco Diamante's two restaurants and pool bar as slightly overpriced.

"Grand" is certainly an apt way to describe this Punta Diamante outpost. With an 18-hole, par 72 golf course; decadent Brio Spa massages, facials and body treatments; and 10 restaurants and bars, The Grand Mayan Acapulco offers plenty of space to spread out. Rooms are equipped with spacious bathtubs, LCD TVs and generous balconies. The guest rooms are consistently praised by visitors for their comfort and cleanliness. According to recent guests, another crowd-pleaser is the tranquil pool area. A hit with kids and adults alike, the pool offers spectacular views of the beach (sans the pushy vendors). Plus, The Grand Mayan Acapulco offers plenty of entertainment for the whole gang with activities like snorkeling, kayaking and nature tours, not to mention a designated kids club for guests ages 5 to 12. Still, though guests were equally satisfied with the varied selection of menu offerings and high-quality service at the on-site restaurants, they do bemoan the high prices.

    Pierre Mundo Imperial

    4.0-star Hotel Class

The Pierre Mundo Imperial sits on a prime stretch of Revolcadero Beach. However, unlike its neighbor resorts, the Pierre Mundo Imperial doesn't exude the same mega-resort feel. Instead of skyscraping towers, you'll find a collection of Mexican villas, bungalows and low-rise buildings all shaded by soaring palm trees and tropical greenery. Recent guests say the absence of a multi-story tower creates a more relaxed feel throughout the entire property. Many reviewers also applauded the property's outstanding service and more relaxed atmosphere. Each room features a private balcony, garden or ocean views, and Mexican-tropical decor, plus modern amenities like flat-screen TVs and high speed Internet access. And along with the three on-site pools, guests also have access to the nearby Turtle Dunes golf course, beach and soccer fileds. Just make sure you head back to the Pierre Mundo Imperial for dinner. The Tabachin Restaurant and the hotel's three other casual eateries received rave reviews from guests.
